Application Stage

The recruitment process generally starts at the online application form, and this is where around 80% of applicants fail. (Some employers still require a CV.) Online application forms are mostly processed by machines using artificial intelligence, not people using judgement. The computers are programmed to score the online application based on set criteria. If you don’t use the right words or give the right answers, your application will fail at the first hurdle.

Telephone Interview Skills

Many of the top employers use Telephone Interviewing as another “screen them out” process. Employers love this stage because it is cheap and can be outsourced to a third party. A lot of candidates fail at this stage because the employer can “raise the bar” so that only the number they want to interview face-to-face succeed. If you haven’t been trained in telephone interview techniques you will be at a disadvantage. You need to learn the skills.

Interview Stage

If you have been successful so far, you will be invited to the next stage. This is most likely to be a face to face interview. (Because of the cost of running Assessment Centres, most businesses prefer to screen applicants out at interview and some 60% of candidates fail at this stage.)

All the “blue-chip” companies use face to face interviews that are “criteria based”. This means that the questions will have been developed by psychologists to identify particular behaviours that the “blue-chip” has found to be displayed by its most successful people. These behaviours may relate to things like interpersonal skills, ethics, results orientation, problem solving etc. There is a “right way” to answer these questions and that is what we will teach you. Our Winning at Interview package (see below) provides a best value solution for succeeding at face to face interviews.


Winning at Interview – £400.00
  • You will receive 3 hours face to face interview training focussing on:
    • Your delivery/voice and vocal technique
    • How to manage your nerves
    • How to deal easily with difficult questions
    • Advanced bridging techniques to give you more answer options
    • How to present yourself convincingly
    • What your body language is telling the interviewer
    • How to optimise your personal impact
    • How to respond to questions
    • How to ask questions and what questions to ask
  • You will receive 1-2 hours telephone interview training focussing on:
    • How to recognise and successfully answer competency based questions
    • How to cope with difficult questions on the telephone
    • Listening and responding
    • How to use voice delivery to your advantage
    • How to benefit from using pauses
  • You will receive a Full Support Package including:
    • A twenty-two point interview appraisal report
    • Continuous telephone support up to and following your interview
    • Coaching debrief following your interview
    • Advice on any post-interview feedback
    • Access to your coach when you need it for up to 6 interviews
    • FREE one hour of face-to-face training session should you be unsuccessful in securing a job offer through the interview process
    • 20% discount should you decide to use the assessment centre training opportunity
On-Camera Interview Skills (3Hrs) – £550.00

For many people, being interviewed by someone we don’t know can be stressful and it can bring out nervous reactions in our speech or body language. So, on-camera practice and feedback can be invaluable as it mirrors the real life interview. For example, if we can see and hear ourselves on film using the (inappropriate for business) “cool” language and gestures of our social group we can do something about it.

Please note: these coaching packages are extremely helpful, and they will greatly increase your chances of being invited to an Assessment Centre, but they are not a substitute for Assessment Centre training. For comprehensive coaching in Assessment Centre skills, you will need to attend our Assessment Centre Training Programme, which is also included within our Premier Coaching Package (see below).
